If the hacker knows your username than half of the work is done. Now he will try to get your password. There are 3 ways to get any person Facebook password.
  1. He will guess the password
If you are a person who uses the date of birth as your password. Then you are offering your Facebook account to get hacked.
  2. He will trick you to get the password
Maybe if he is your relative or friend you might give your password to him. Else he might use some tricks to get your password like phishing, keylogger, screen recording, CCTV etc.
  3. He will reset your password
If the hacker knows many things about you. Then it will be a lot easy to reset your current password and access your Facebook account.

Tips to secure your Facebook account from getting hacked

Now you know how these things work. So you might be getting what I am trying to say. So it’s the right time to tell you about. How you can secure Facebook account from getting hacked. So let’s see all the important Facebook security tips.

1. Hide email address

Always remember one thing if the hacker doesn't know your username. He can’t do anything even if he knows your password.
So always hide your email from the Facebook account if it is your username. Don’t think to use your mobile number as your username. Because the mobile number is very simple to guess as username if a hacker is your relative and friend.

How to hide email from Facebook account

  • Go to your timeline and click on about tab.
  • Open Contact and Basic info
  • Now make your email visible to “Only me” and Hidden from the timeline.
  • Then save changes.
So now stranger can get your username, so you are 50% safe now. Now we will deal with close relative and friends.

2.Never use public PC

Never log in to Facebook account using a public computer or friend computer whom you don’t trust. You don’t know which malicious software he is using in the background. Which might be recording screen or recording your keyboard keys (keylogger) or maybe he is using fake Facebook page (phishing attack). Where you will enter your username and password and it will be stored on PC. So you don’t need to take the risk. Always use your personal mobile or PC.

3. Make a very strong password

If hacker fails to get your password by phishing, keylogger etc. he might start guessing your password.  A few years back people used to use their date of birth as a password like 15091999. So it is very easy to guess even mobile number as a password is a really bad choice.
Always use a strong password which has one capital word and one digit at least. You can also see how strong is your password and how much time it take to guess. From how secure is my password

4. Always see address kafetaria to identify real and clone site

Whenever a site redirects you to Facebook always check address kafetaria and see if the Facebook site is secure and encrypted. You can see this by seeing a lock sign and “HTTPS” before www.facebook.com.
https

If you don’t see a lock sign and only see “HTTP” then just close the page it is a fake Facebook page created by the hacker.

5. Always Logout if you share mobile/PC

If you don’t share your laptop or mobile with the people then it’s ok. But if you share these things then always make sure you log out before sharing.

In mobile, you can use app locker. But In case you forget to log out and you don’t have app locker keep eye on your mobile screen.

If you are on laptop/desktop you can lock your computer profile and always offer other to work on guest profile only not yours.

If you are using chrome browser then you can lock your chrome browser profile.

6. Never share all the details about yourself

Some people fill everything in the about page of Facebook timeline. Even some people share most of the detail about themselves. Like a favorite teacher, birthplace, pet name, hospital where you born etc. Hacker also tries honey trap and ask these kinds of questions from you. Which makes easy to solve the secret questions.

So never let anyone know too much about you. Nor use simple secret question which every friend and relative know.

7. Enable login alert

It’s an extra security feature which will send a notification to your mobile/email. If someone tries to log into your Facebook profile from different location and browser or mobile.
login alert
To enable login alert just go to security settings >> login alert

Then select “Get Notifications” and add your mobile number or email. Whichever comfortable on getting login notification.

8. Avoid inserting someone Pen drive

You should avoid inserting someone pen drive into your laptop/desktop. Many hackers use these type of hack to get all the browser username and password. When they connect the pen drive it automatically runs some script and copies all the password from your browsers.
pen drive
Especially if you are running Windows XP, Vista, 7 then you should avoid untrusted people pen drive. You never know how much damage they can give to you by getting all the username and password.

So just avoid if you can, if not then just log in to windows guest account and then use their pen drive and never autorun or scan. Because only then their script work in the background.

9. Use Anti-virus

alert anti virus
Personally, I don’t use anti-virus though it is very important for the person who share his PC/laptop. So if you share your system then you should use anti-virus to protect from malicious software and virus. Because these are the virus someone tries to inject into your PC to get the detail they want like password etc.

10 Format laptop/mobile before selling

Whenever you sell your mobile factory reset the mobile. I know many time people does these type of mistakes. They just give the phone for money without removing their personal details.

When you sell PC just format the window or you can delete all the personal things including all the software.

My brother had bought a 2nd hand laptop. In which he had all the details about seller but he formatted the detail. But you might not get an innocent buyer so always make sure to remove everything before sell.

Extra Tips:- Always use lock in mobile and PC

Friends always enjoy together they party and drink. But suppose in that situation someone can take advantage and start using your Facebook. But if you use a pattern lock or password lock. It will be a lot harder to access your phone. So always use a pattern lock or password lock.

Hope you understand you can secure facebook account by using all these tips. if you still have any question you can comment without thinking anything else.
