Did you know cockroaches are a boon for the Environment - If you are asked, "does the most disgusting animal in the world?", Most people would probably answer cockroach.
Black body, can run swiftly to the elusive and live in places dirty, humid, and nasty, made not a few people screaming at the sight of this one animal. But did you know that cockroaches have such great benefits to the environment? This was revealed by researchers from the University of Texas, USA.
Professor Srini Kambhampati from the University of Texas says, the cockroach has an essential role in the survival of the planet ecosystem. If the cockroach population declined rapidly, the nitrogen cycle on earth would be disturbed.
"Cockroach hobby eating the remains of organic waste that contains nitrogen. Nitrogen that enters the body and then released them on the ground and used for plant growth and development," said Kambhampati as quoted by the Huffington Post recently.
"In other words, if a cockroach extinction in Earth's environmental health will be affected. Similarly, all species that live in them," said Kambhampati.
Kambhampati added 10,000 cockroach species that exist on earth as well as food for birds and rodents, which then becomes food of other animals, such as cats, hawks, and reptiles. This means that, if a cockroach extinction would disrupt the food chain of other animals.
